Upstate Forever seeks a full-time Land Protection Specialist to work in the organization’s Land Trust Program on protecting special places in the Upstate region of South Carolina.
DESCRIPTION OF UPSTATE FOREVER
Founded in 1998, Upstate Forever now has over 1,900 members, 19 staff in two offices and three basic programs: Land Trust, Clean Air and Water, and Sustainable Communities. Under the Land Trust Program, Upstate Forever has signed 92 conservation easements that protect over 18,000 acres of forests, farms, natural areas, and significant sites in the region. DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Land Protection Specialist will assist the Land Trust Director in achieving Upstate Forever’s vision and goals for the Upstate and related strategies and initiatives associated with the Land Trust Program. A significant portion of the work will be based in Greenville but will also include travel within the other nine counties of the region.
We seek a proactive, confident, organized, patient, positive, and responsive person with a great passion for conservation. At least one year of experience in land conservation is preferred but not essential. The person must be able to work well with a wide range of different people, including landowners, members of their families, and professionals. The ability to manage large files and basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word and Excel) are required. It is imperative that the candidate be organized, professional, personable, able to relate well to others, and good at the technical writing required in drafting conservation easements.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary range is $28,000 – $35,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Heath insurance and retirement benefits are provided.
