Rocky River Nature Park, a gem of wetlands and wildlife, moved many steps closer to achieving its vision in 2013. Anderson University and a private landowner have committed significant parcels for the park, located less than two miles from downtown Anderson.
Upstate Forever secured a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to assist the Rocky River Conservancy (RRC) in developing a master plan for the park, which may eventually encompass more than 400 acres. The grant also funded activities such as community meetings and educational program planning. Many months of technical work culminated in a well-attended design charrette and idea-sharing session in December.
The Hydrological Assessment and Wetlands Restoration Plans are nearly complete, while the Nature Park Master Plan and Education Plan are slated for presentation to the community by Spring. Construction of boardwalks, trails, and education platforms will soon follow!
